1. Birr Rede
Acht neue Reservekraftwerke, die mit Gas und Öl betrieben werden können, stehen jetzt betriebsbereit in Birr.
Ein neues Flüssiggasterminal in Muttenz befindet sich in Planung und in Lützerath wird ein Dorf der Kohle geopfert.
Eine neue fossile Welle baut sich vor uns auf.
Das war der Beginn der Rede am internationalen Klimastreik vor einem Jahr. Unser Kampf gegen fossile Infrastruktur haben wir seither stetig weitergeführt und wir dürfen heute auch einige Erfolge feiern. Das genannte Flüssiggasterminal in Muttenz wurde dank unserem Protest – insbesondere Demos, Haustürgespräche und Aktionen – nicht gebaut. Juhuuuu!
Zudem haben wir erfolgreich die Einsprache gegen die Reservekraftwerke in Birr eingelegt. Mit einer Anwohnerin von Birr haben wir über ein Jahr lang die Einsprache von Instanz zu Instanz gezogen und schlussendlich vor dem Bundesverwaltungsgericht Recht bekommen. Laut dem Bundesverwaltungsgericht war der Bau der Reservekraftwerke illegal. Denn der Bundesrat konnte nicht genügend begründen, wieso es diese Reservekraftwerke braucht. Weder gab es genügend Hinweise auf eine Strommangellage, noch wären die Reservekraftwerke die einzige Lösung gewesen, diese abzuwenden.
Wir haben es nun Schwarz auf Weiss, dem Bundesrat sind die Profite fossiler Grosskonzerne wie General Electrics und Glencore wichtiger als die Erhaltung unserer Lebensgrundlage. Dies ist wiedereinmal ein Schlag ins Gesicht aller derjenigen, die sich seit Jahren für einen klimagerechte Welt einsetzen. Während im Globalen Süden immer mehr Menschen ihre Lebensgrundlage verlieren und um ihre Existenz fürchten müssen, giesst die Schweiz als Land aus dem Globalen Norden weiter Öl ins Feuer.
Auch das letzte Urteil des Europäischen Gerichtshof für Menschenrechte in Strassburg hat gezeigt: Die Schweiz ist nicht auf Kurs in Sachen Klimaschutz. Die Klimaseniorinnen haben vom Europäischen Gerichtshof für Menschenrechte die Bestätigung, dass die Schweiz die Lebensgrundlagen insb. von älteren Frauen nicht genügend schützt, weil die Schweiz nicht einmal bindende Abkommen wie das Pariser Klimaabkommen einhält.
Die Schweizer Politik wurde nun innerhalb eines Jahres zwei Mal erfolgreich verklagt, und immer noch wird von den “kriminellen Klimaaktivist*innen” gesprochen – Wollt ihr uns verarschen???!!
Das der Bundesrat mit der jetzigen Klimapolitik die Klimakrise nur weiter anheizt, sollte nun definitiv allen klar sein. Doch anstatt endlich den Kurs richtung klimagerechte Welt zu ändern, plant der Bundesrat bereits die nächste fossile Offensive. Neue Reservekraftwerke sollen die bestehenden Reservekraftwerke langfristig ablösen. Eine konsequente und gerechte Energiewende ist also noch lange nicht in Sicht und das fossile Zeitalter wird künstlich in die Länge gezogen.
Doch nicht mit uns. Die Erfolge im letzten Jahr haben gezeigt, dass wir gemeinsam vieles erreichen können. Wir werden auch in Zukunft mit allen Mitteln gegen die fossile Welle ankämpfen!
Auch heute sind wir hier und fordern einen sofortigen Stopp des Ausbaus von fossiler Infrastruktur!
Wir werden weiter laut und hartnäckig sein, denn die Klimakrise stoppt nicht, sondern beschleunigt sich weiter. Diesen Sommer wird es wieder eine Rise up Aktionswoche geben, mit Protestcamp und Aktionstagen – wenn du mit uns die fossile Welle brechen willst, sei am 2. August bis 12. August mit dabei!!!

Eight new reserve power plants that can run on gas and oil are now ready for operation in Birr.
A new liquefied natural gas terminal is being planned in Muttenz and in Lützerath, Germany, a village is being sacrificed to coal.
A new fossil wave is building up in front of us.
That was the beginning of the speech at the international climate strike a year ago. Since then, we have continued our fight against fossil fuel infrastructure and today we can also celebrate some successes. The aforementioned liquefied natural gas terminal in Muttenz was not built thanks to our protests – in particular demonstrations, door-to-door talks and campaigns. Yay!
We also successfully filed an objection against the reserve power plants in Birr. Together with a resident of Birr, we took the objection from instance to instance for over a year and finally won our case before the Federal Administrative Court. According to the Federal Administrative Court, the construction of the reserve power plants was illegal. This was because the Federal Council was unable to provide sufficient justification as to why these reserve power plants were needed. There was not enough evidence of an electricity shortage, nor would the reserve power plants have been the only solution to prevent it.
We now have it in black and white: the profits of large fossil fuel companies such as General Electrics and Glencore are more important to the Federal Council than the preservation of our livelihoods. Once again, this is a slap in the face to all those who have been campaigning for a climate-just world for years. While more and more people in the Global South are losing their livelihoods and have to fear for their existence, Switzerland, as a country of the Global North, continues to pour oil on the fire.
The latest judgement of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg has also shown this: Switzerland is not on course when it comes to climate protection. The climate seniors have confirmation from the European Court of Human Rights that Switzerland is not sufficiently protecting the livelihoods of older women in particular because Switzerland is not even complying with binding agreements such as the Paris Climate Agreement.
Swiss politicians have now been successfully sued twice in the space of a year, and there is still talk of ”criminal climate activists”. – Are you kidding us???!!!
It should now be clear to everyone that the Federal Council is only fuelling the climate crisis with its current climate policy. But instead of finally changing course towards a climate-just world, the Federal Council is already planning the next fossil fuel offensive. New reserve power plants are to replace the existing reserve power plants in the long term. A consistent and fair energy transition is therefore still a long way off and the fossil fuel era is being artificially prolonged.
But not with us. Last year’s successes have shown that we can achieve a lot together. We will continue to fight the fossil fuel wave with all means at our disposal!
We are here again today to demand an immediate stop to the expansion of the fossil infrastructure!

Un nouveau terminal de gaz liquide est en cours de planification à Muttenz, et à Lützerath, en Allemagne, un village entier est sacrifié au charbon.

C’était le début de notre discours lors de la grève internationale pour le climat il y a un an. Depuis, nous avons poursuivi notre lutte contre les infrastructures fossiles et nous pouvons aujourd’hui célébrer quelques succès. Le terminal de gaz liquéfié de Muttenz n’a pas été construit grâce à nos protestations, notamment les manifestations, les porte-à-porte et les actions. Youpi !
En outre, nous avons fait opposition avec succès à la centrale de réserve à Birr. Avec une habitante de Birr, nous avons porté l’opposition d’instance en instance pendant plus d’un an et avons finalement obtenu gain de cause devant le Tribunal administratif fédéral. Selon le Tribunal administratif fédéral, la construction des centrales de réserve était illégale. En effet, le Conseil fédéral n’a pas pu justifier suffisamment la nécessité de ces centrales de réserve. Il n’y avait pas suffisamment d’indices d’une pénurie d’électricité, et les centrales de réserve n’auraient pas été la seule solution pour l’éviter.
La verité est là, noir sur blanc : Le Conseil fédéral accorde plus d’importance aux profits des grands groupes fossiles comme General Electrics et Glencore qu’à la préservation de notre base de vie. C’est une fois de plus une gifle pour tou.te.s celleux qui s’engagent depuis des années pour un monde adapté au climat. Alors que de plus en plus de personnes dans le Sud global perdent leurs moyens de subsistance et craignent pour leur existence, la Suisse, en tant que pays du Nord global, continue de jeter de l’huile sur le feu.
Le dernier jugement de la Cour européenne des droits de l’homme à Strasbourg l’a également montré : La Suisse n’est pas sur la bonne voie en matière de protection du climat. Les Aînées du climat ont reçu la confirmation de la Cour européenne des droits de l’homme que la Suisse ne protège pas suffisamment les bases de l’existence, en particulier des femmes âgées, parce que la Suisse ne respecte même pas les accords contraignants comme l’Accord de Paris sur le climat.
En l’espace d’un an, la politique suisse a été poursuivie deux fois avec succès, et on parle toujours des “activistes climatiques criminel.le.s”. – Mais vous vous moquez de nous ??!!
Il devrait être clair pour tout le monde que la politique climatique actuelle du Conseil fédéral ne fait qu’attiser la crise climatique. Mais au lieu de changer enfin de cap en direction d’un monde respectueux du climat, le Conseil fédéral prévoit déjà la prochaine offensive fossile. De nouvelles centrales de réserve devront remplacer à long terme les centrales de réserve existantes. Un tournant énergétique cohérent et équitable est donc loin d’être en vue et l’ère fossile est ainsi artificiellement prolongée.
Mais pas avec nous. Les succès de l’année passée ont montré que nous pouvons réaliser beaucoup de choses ensemble. Nous continuerons à nous battre par tous les moyens contre la vague fossile !
Aujourd’hui encore, nous sommes ici pour exiger l’arrêt immédiat du développement des infrastructures fossiles !
Nous continuerons à faire du bruit et à persévérer, car la crise climatique ne s’arrête pas, mais continue à s’accélérer. Cet été, il y aura à nouveau une semaine d’action RiseUp, avec un camp de protestation et des journées d’action – si tu veux briser la vague fossile avec nous, rejoins-nous du 2 au 12 août !!!

2. Finanzplatz Rede
In wenigen Tagen kommen drei Gäste aus Argentinien und Pwelmapu, einem indigenen Mapuche-Territorium, das in Argentinien liegt, nach Bern. Um den ganzen Ozean zu überqueren und hierher zu kommen, müssen starke Antriebskräfte im Spiel sein.
Der Hauptgrund ist Vaca Muerta. Ein Schieferbecken in Pwelmapu (Argentinien), in der Region Patagonien, das sich über 30.000 Quadratkilometer erstreckt und dessen Reserven auf 144 Millionen Kubikmeter fossiles Gas und Öl geschätzt werden. Gibt es für die großen Akteure der fossilen Industrie (Chevron, Shell, BP TotalEnergies, Exxon Mobile, Equinor, um nur einige zu nennen) einen größeren Anreiz, als das gesamte Öl und Gas aus diesem Gebiet zu fördern? Genau das ist der Fall. Sie führen ein mega-extraktivistisches Projekt durch, das nichts weniger als eine Fracking-Kohlenstoffbombe ist. Aber die internationale Beteiligung geht über die großen Öl- und Gasunternehmen hinaus – sie ist auch entscheidend für die Finanzierung der geschätzten zehn Milliarden Dollar, die auf dem Spiel stehen. Die Finanzinstitute des westlichen Machtzentrums tragen nämlich zur Zerstörung von Gemeinschaften und Ökosystemen bei, die lange Zeit in Harmonie gelebt haben. Das bedeutet, dass die Schweizer Finanz- und Handelszentren, Zürich und Genf, der Zerstörung und der Gewalt, die der Erde und allen Lebewesen auferlegt wird, zustimmen; das bedeutet, dass die UBS/Credit Suisse und die Schweizerische Nationalbank, die Aktionäre von Shell und anderen Ölgesellschaften, der Tötung ganzer indigener Gemeinschaften, die unsere Verteidiger des Lebens sind, zustimmen.
Was für eine Welt könnten wir schaffen, wenn wir uns alle als Verteidiger des Lebens sehen würden? Setzen Sie sich eine Weile mit dieser Frage auseinander, von dort aus, wo Sie sind. So wie wir von der Schweiz aus das Problem anheizen, werden wir auch die Lösung vorantreiben. Um also das Recht auf Leben einzufordern und zu erkennen, dass unsere Institutionen uns mit ihren Menschenrechtsverletzungen nicht dienen oder vertreten, müssen wir unsere Vorstellungskraft weiter entwickeln und uns ein Leben vorstellen, das allen Menschen dient. Wir können die Saat dessen sein, was kommen wird.
Lassen Sie uns gemeinsam für ein gutes Leben für alle kämpfen. Zusammen mit Ihnen können wir erste Schritte unternehmen und die Schweizerische Nationalbank und die UBS daran hindern, in Ölfirmen zu investieren. In a few days, three guests from Argentina and Pwelmapu, which is an indigenous Mapuche territory occupied in Argentina, will be coming to Bern. To cross the entire ocean and come here, there have to be strong driving forces at play.
The main reason is Vaca Muerta. A shale basin in Pwelmapu (Argentina), in the Patagonia region, extending over 30,000 square kilometres of reserves estimated at 144 million cubic metres of fossil gas and oil. Is there any greater attraction for the big players in the fossil industry (Chevron, Shell, BP TotalEnergies, Exxon Mobile, Equinor, to name a few) than to extract all the oil and gas from this land? That is the case. They are carrying out a mega extractivist project that is nothing less than a fracking carbon bomb. But international involvement goes beyond the big oil and gas companies – it’s also crucial for financing the estimated tens of billions of dollars at stake. In fact, the financial institutions of the Western power centre are fuelling the destruction of communities and ecosystems that have long lived in harmony. This means that the Swiss financial and trading centres, Zurich and Geneva, consent to the destruction and violence imposed on the earth and all living beings; this means that UBS/Credit Suisse and the Swiss National Bank, shareholders in Shell and other oil companies, consent to the killing of entire indigenous communities, who are our defenders of life.
What kind of world could we create if we all saw ourselves as defenders of life? Sit with this question for a while, from where you are. Just as we are fuelling the problem from Switzerland, we will also be fuelling the solution. So, in order to claim the right to life, recognising that our institutions are not serving or representing us with their violations of human rights, we need to take our imagination further and imagine a life that serves everyone. We can be the seeds of what is to come.
So let’s fight together, lets fight for a good life for everyone, together with you we can do first steps, we can stop Swiss National Bank and UBS to invest in oil companies. Join the legal protest in during the general meeting of the Swiss National Bank on Friday, 26. April, here in Bern together with the life defenders from Argentina and Pwelmapu. 3. Gas Ausstieg Rede
Wir sind heute hier, um gegen fossile Infrastruktur zu kämpfen. Gegen die Infrastruktur, die die Klimakrise immer und immer weiter anfeuert.An was denkt ihr bei fossiler Infrastruktur? An das westdeutsche Dorf Lützerath, das der Kohle weichen musste? An Fracking und riesige Pipelines? Stimmt alles. Aber fossile Infrastruktur reicht noch weiter, bis in die Wohnungen von vielen von uns hinein. Unsere Heizungen, unsere Herde, unsere Warmwasserboiler – All das wird häufig mit Öl und Gas versorgt.Die Stadt Bern deckt ihren Energiebedarf für Wärme zu über 50% mit Gas und insgesamt zu knapp 80% mit fossilen Energieträgern. Das ist sogar im schweizweiten Vergleich noch schlecht. Verantwortlich für die miserable Energiepolitik der Stadt Bern sind die ewb-Spitze auf der einen und die Entscheidungsträger*innen der städtischen institutionellen Politik auf der anderen Seite. Bei ihnen liegt die Entscheidungsmacht über die fossile Infrastruktur unserer Wohnungen – bei ihnen müssen wir also Druck aufbauen.Als Klimastreik Bern arbeiten wir seit über einem Jahr zum Thema Gas. Und wir haben schon einen grossen Erfolg erzielt: Wir haben den Bau eines neuen Flüssiggas-Terminals in Schweizerhalle bei Basel verhindert! Jetzt wollen wir nicht nur Rückschritte be-, sondern dringend nötige Fortschritte erkämpfen. Wir fordern:Einen vollumfänglichen Erdgas-Ausstieg bis 2030!“Erneuerbare” Gase nur dort, wo sie unersetzlich sind!Den Stopp aller Investitionen ins Gasnetz!Warum gabs das alles bisher nicht? Nicht wegen Unwissenheit der Entscheidungsträger*innen, sondern weil ein Gasausstieg finanziell viele Nachteile mit sich bringt. Mehr als die Hälfte des Gasnetzes wurde erst nach 2000 gebaut (2000, da wusste man schon lange lange von der Klimakrise) und hat sich noch nicht gerechnet. Das jetzt zu ersetzen, bedeutet, auf die erwarteten Profite zu verzichten.Das heisst dann wiederum aber auch, dass von alleine keine Schritte in Richtung Gasausstieg unternommen werden. Wenn ein schneller Gasausstieg kommen soll, dann müssen wir den erkämpfen. Und da sind wir dran im Moment:(einmal im Schnelldurchlauf): Wir haben von ewb in einem offenen Brief eine klare Positionierung gefordert, wir haben Flavia Wasserfallen, ewb-Verwaltungsrätin und SP-Ständerätin, einen Besuch abgestattet, wir haben Kontakt zu den Arbeiter*innen und Gewerkschaften aufgenommen, wir machen Druck auf den Stadt- und Regierungsrat.Wenn du dabei bist, dann …Gas ist keine Lösung. Statt fossile Infrastruktur weiter auszubauen, muss der Energieverbrauch sozial gerecht sinken. Dafür werden wir kämpfen. Aues gägä Gas!

We are here today to fight against fossil infrastructure. Against the infrastructure that is fueling the climate crisis over and over again.
What do you think of when you think of fossil infrastructure? The village of Lützerath in western Germany that had to make way for coal? Fracking and huge pipelines? That’s all true. But fossil infrastructure goes even further, right into the homes of many of us. Our heating systems, our stoves, our hot water boilers – all of these are often supplied with oil and gas.
The city of Bern covers over 50% of its energy requirements for heating with gas and just under 80% with fossil fuels. This is still poor even by Swiss standards. ewb’s top management on the one hand and the decision-makers in the city’s institutional policy on the other are responsible for the city of Bern’s miserable energy policy. They have the power to make decisions about the fossil fuel infrastructure of our homes – so we have to put pressure on them.
As Klimastreik Bern, we have been working on the issue of gas for over a year. And we have already achieved one major success: We have prevented the construction of a new liquefied natural gas terminal in Schweizerhalle near Basel! Now we don’t just want to take steps backwards, we want to fight for urgently needed progress.
We demand:
A complete phase-out of natural gas by 2030!
“Renewable” gases only where they are irreplaceable!
A stop to all investments in the gas network!
Why has none of this happened so far? Not because of ignorance on the part of the decision-makers, but because phasing out gas has many financial disadvantages. More than half of the gas network was only built after 2000 (2000, when the climate crisis had long been known) and has not yet paid for itself. Replacing it now means foregoing the expected profits.
However, this also means that no steps will be taken towards a gas phase-out on its own. If we want to phase out gas quickly, we have to fight for it. And that’s where we are at the moment:
(once in fast-forward): We have demanded a clear position from ewb in an open letter, we have paid a visit to Flavia Wasserfallen, ewb board member and SP member of the Council of States, we have made contact with the workers* and trade unions, we are putting pressure on the city and cantonal councils.
If you’re with us, then …
Gas is not a solution. Instead of further expanding fossil fuel infrastructure, energy consumption must be reduced in a socially just way. We will fight for this.
4. Congo Rede
Ich bin heute hier um meine Solidarität meinen Geschwistern in der Demokratischen Republik Kongo auszusprechen, die an einem Ort auf der Welt leben, in welchem seit über 30 Jahren Krieg herrscht über den hier kaum gesprochen wird. Ein Krieg der aktuell schätzungsweise 7 Millionen Menschen zur Flucht treibt, 7 Millionen Menschen also – in etwa die Einwohnerzahl der Schweiz. Menschen die aus ihrer gewohnten Umgebung vertrieben werden, die massakriert werden, Frauen und Kinder die tagtäglich massivster sexualisierter Gewalt ausgesetzt sind, ein Ort auf der Erde, der durch neokoloniale Ausbeutung geprägt ist, von der wir hier alle profitieren. Ein Ort auf der Welt, in dem Menschenrechtsverletzungen begangen werden und die internationale Gemeinschaft quasi schweigend zuschaut. Ich spreche hier vom ressourcenreichsten Land der Erde, und während ich hier spreche und mein iPhone in der Hand halte, sterben Menschen darunter auch Kinder, weil sie in Minen, oft illegalen Minen unter widrigsten Bedingungen ausgebeutet werden um diese Stoffe abzubauen welche mein Iphone benötigt um zu funktionieren. Vor allem das reiche Rohstoffvorkommen im Ostkongo, wo auch Coltan – das für Elektrogeräte gebraucht wird – abgebaut wird spielt eine zentrale Rolle in der Kriegsfinanzierung und ist somit von grossem Interesse für Konzerne und Staaten des „Globalen Nordens“. Der Schweizer Rohstoffkonzern Glencore betreibt im Congo 2 Cobalt Minen, seit Jahren steht er unter Kritik, und wurde 2022 zu einer Milliardenstrafe wegen Korruption verurteilt. Das reicht aber nicht, denn der Konzern macht einfach so weiter wie bisher. Wir alle hier profitieren vom Leid der kongolesischen Bevölkerung, denn solange kein Frieden und Stabilität vor Ort einkehrt, wird die Ausbeutung weitergehen. Der Congo ist aber nicht nur bekannt für sein Rohstoffvorkommen sondern verfügt auch noch über ein Ökosystem das uns Millionen von Tonnen CO2 aus der Atmosphäre holt. Die Rede ist hier von der grössten grünen Lunge unseres Planenten, dem Regenwald im Kongobecken Der Kongoregenwald speichert gigantische Mengen CO2, zum Beispiel: in ihm liegenden grössten Torfmoor der Welt. Viele unverzichtbare Medikamente enthalten einzigartige Stoffe, die es nur in Regenwäldern gibt. Die dort lebenden indigenen Menschen bewahren und schützen das unverzichtbare Ökosystem. Doch der Kongoregenwald und das darin liegende Torfmoor leiden sehr stark unter der Klimakrise und auch unter Abholzung. Diese Mischung kann zu einem Kipppunkt führen, ab dem der Regenwald nicht mehr zu retten ist und somit auch kein CO2 mehr speichern könnte. Die Folgen für uns alle wäre katastrophal. Als wäre das nicht schon schlimm genug: Teile des Kongoregenwalds und vor allem des weltgrösste Torfmoores sollen einer massiven Ölförderung weichen. Dabei könnte schlimmstenfalls die CO2 Menge von 60 Lützeraths freigesetzt werden. Diese Ökosysteme sind das Schutznetz unserer Gesellschaft. Vor allem haben hier die historisch grössten CO2 Emittenten eine besonders grosse Verantwortung, den klimagerechten Schutz dieser existenziellen Ökosysteme zu unterstützen. Lasst und also gemeinsam gegen das Leid im Congo kämpfen, sensibilisiert euer Umfeld hinsichtlich dieser Thematik, stärkt eure Gemeinschaft, jede Stimme ist entscheidend für Gerechtigkeit und im Kampf gegen neoliberale und neokoloniale Ausbeutung und Politik! Danke!

I am here today to express my solidarity with my brothers and sisters in the Democratic Republic of Congo, who live in a place in the world where war has been raging for over 30 years and which is hardly ever talked about here. A war that is currently forcing an estimated 7 million people to flee. Seven million people – roughly the population of Switzerland. People who are displaced from their familiar surroundings, who are massacred, women and children who are exposed to massive sexualised violence on a daily basis, a place on earth that is characterised by neo-colonial exploitation from which we all benefit here. A place in the world where human rights violations are committed and the international community looks on in virtual silence. I am talking about the most resource-rich country in the world, and as I speak and hold my iPhone in my hand, people are dying, including children, because they are being exploited in mines, often illegal mines, under the most adverse conditions in order to extract the materials that my iPhone needs to function. Above all, the rich deposits of raw materials in Eastern Congo, where coltan – which is used for electrical appliances – is also mined, plays a central role in financing wars and is therefore of great interest to multinational companies and states of the “Global North”.
The Swiss commodities group Glencore operates two cobalt mines in Congo, has been criticised for years and was fined billions in 2022 for corruption. But that’s not enough, because the company is simply carrying on as before. We all benefit here from the suffering of the Congolese people, because as long as there is no peace and stability on the ground, the exploitation will continue. The Congo is not only known for its raw material deposits, but also has an ecosystem that removes millions of tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere. We are talking about the largest green lung on our planet, the rainforest in the Congo Basin. The Congo rainforest stores gigantic amounts of CO2, for example in the world’s largest peatlands. Many essential medicines contain special substances that can only be found in rainforests. The indigenous people living there preserve and protect this indispensable ecosystem. However, the Congo rainforest and the peat peatlands within it are suffering greatly from the climate crisis and also from deforestation. This mixture could lead to a tipping point at which the rainforest can no longer be saved and would therefore no longer be able to store CO2. The consequences for all of us would be catastrophic.
As if that wasn’t bad enough: parts of the Congo rainforest and, above all, the world’s largest peatlands are to make way for massive oil extraction. At worst, this could release the amount of CO2 equivalent to 60 Lützeraths. These ecosystems are the safety net of our society. Above all, the historically largest CO2 emitters have a particularly great responsibility here to support the protection of these existential ecosystems in a sustainable way. So let’s fight together against the suffering in the Congo, sensitise your environment to this issue, strengthen your community, every voice is crucial for justice and in the fight against neoliberal and neocolonial exploitation and politics! Thank you!

Aujourd’hui, je suis ici pour exprimer ma solidarité à mes frères et sœurs de la République démocratique du Congo, qui vivent dans un endroit du monde où la guerre fait rage depuis plus de 30 ans et dont on ne parle guère ici. Une guerre qui, selon les estimations, pousse actuellement 7 millions de personnes à fuir. Sept millions de personnes – à peu près le nombre d’habitants de la Suisse. Des personnes chassées de leur environnement habituel, massacrées, des femmes et des enfants exposé.e.s quotidiennement à des violences sexuelles massives, un endroit de la planète marqué par l’exploitation néocoloniale dont nous profitons toutes et tous ici. Un endroit du monde où des violations des droits de l’homme sont commises et où la communauté internationale observe quasiment en silence. Je parle ici du pays le plus riche en ressources naturelles de la planète, et pendant que je parle et que je tiens mon iPhone dans la main, des gens, dont des enfants, meurent parce qu’ils sont exploité.e.s dans des mines, souvent illégales, dans les pires conditions, pour extraire ces substances dont mon iPhone a besoin pour fonctionner. Les riches gisements de matières premières dans l’est du Congo, d’où est également extrait le coltan – utilisé pour les appareils électriques -, jouent un rôle central dans le financement de la guerre et sont donc d’un grand intérêt pour les multinationales et les États du “Nord global”.
Le groupe suisse de matières premières Glencore exploite deux mines de cobalt au Congo, il est sous le feu des critiques depuis des années et a été condamné en 2022 à une amende de plusieurs milliards pour corruption. Mais cela ne suffit pas, car le groupe continue tout simplement comme avant. Nous profitons toutes et tous ici de la souffrance de la population congolaise, car tant que la paix et la stabilité ne seront pas revenues sur place, l’exploitation continuera. Le Congo n’est pas seulement connu pour ses gisements de matières premières, mais dispose également d’un écosystème qui extrait des millions de tonnes de CO2 de l’atmosphère. Il s’agit ici du plus grand poumon vert de notre planète, la forêt tropicale du bassin du Congo La forêt tropicale du Congo stocke des quantités gigantesques de CO2, par exemple dans la plus grande tourbière du monde qui s’y trouve. De nombreux médicaments indispensables contiennent des substances exceptionnelles qui n’existent que dans les forêts tropicales. Les populations indigènes qui y vivent préservent et protègent cet écosystème indispensable. Mais la forêt pluviale congolaise et la tourbière qu’elle abrite souffrent énormément de la crise climatique et également de la déforestation. Ce mélange peut conduire à un point de basculement à partir duquel la forêt tropicale ne pourrait plus être sauvée et ne pourrait donc plus stocker de CO2.
Les conséquences pour nous tous seraient catastrophiques. Comme si cela ne suffisait pas, des parties de la forêt tropicale congolaise et surtout de la plus grande tourbière du monde devraient céder la place à une exploitation pétrolière massive. Dans le pire des cas, l’équivalent en CO2 de soixante Lützerath pourrait être libéré. Ces écosystèmes sont le filet de protection de notre société. Les plus gros émetteurs de CO2 de l’histoire ont la responsabilité de soutenir la protection de ces écosystèmes existentiels dans le respect du climat. Luttons donc ensemble contre la souffrance au Congo, sensibilisez votre entourage à cette thématique, renforcez votre communauté, chaque voix est décisive pour la justice et dans la lutte contre l’exploitation et la politique néolibérales et néocoloniales ! 5. Gaza Rede
Seit Jahren sehen wir, wie unser Planet zerstört wird!
Seit Jahren erleben wir den stetigen Anstieg der globalen Temperaturen!
Seit Jahren erleben wir, wie der Verbrauch fossiler Brennstoffe trotzdem weiter ansteigt!
Und seit einem halben Jahr müssen wir auch einen Genozid in Gaza live mitverfolgen.
Und was Gaza zerstört, zerstört die Erde.
Und was die Erde zerstört, zerstört Gaza.
Denn die Zerstörung der Erde begann mit der grossflächigen Nutzung fossiler Brennstoffe.
Die Abhängigkeit der Wirtschaft von diesen fossilen Brennstoffen wurde immer grösser. Kapitalistische Konkurrenz erzeugt einen Wettlauf um Ressourcen.
Dabei werden die eigenen Interessen auch militärisch durchgesetzt.
Und dafür braucht es wiederum genau diese fossilen Rohstoffe.
Der arabische Raum/west asiatische / Nahe Osten ist reich an diesen begehrten Bodenschätzen.
In diesem Kontext ist die grosse Unterstützung Israels durch den Westen, allen voran durch die USA, zu verstehen. Israel ist ein so wichtiger, militärischer und geopolitischer Aussenposten in der Region.
So wichtig, dass Joe Biden einst selbst öffentlich sagte:
«Wenn es kein Israel gäbe, müssten wir eines erfinden»
Wenn die imperialistischen Interessen in Gefahr kommen, wird mit Gewalt und Krieg zurückgeschlagen.
Wir sehen dies am Irak-Krieg.
Wir sehen dies, bei indigenen Protesten gegen Pipelines und Umweltzerstörung.
Und wir sehen dies in Palästina.
Der Westen und Israel zerstören mit der Macht fossiler Brennstoffe Gaza und zerstören dabei auch die Erde. In Gaza verschmelzen Ökozid und Genozid auf eine nie dagewesene Weise.
Während den ersten zwei Monaten des Genozids hat das israelische Militär so viel CO2 ausgestossen, wie 20 Länder im globalen Süden in einem ganzen Jahr zusammen.
Und während über Gaza die Bomben fallen, werden bereits die Gasvorkommen vor der Küste an israelische und westliche Unternehmen verkauft.
Mittlerweile hat das israelische Militär mehr als 33’000 Menschen ermordet.
Wer bisher nicht durch die Bomben getötet wurde, bleibt in einem Ödland mit verseuchtem Boden und ungeniessbarem Wasser zurück.
Übrig bleibt ein zerstörter und verseuchter Landstrich, in dem menschliches Leben auf Dauer unmöglich gemacht wird. Eine Zukunft, die angesichts der Klimaerwärmung vielen Ländern im globalen Süden bevorsteht.
Im Kampf gegen Genozid, Kolonialismus und Klimawandel stehen wir einem übermächtig erscheinenden Feind gegenüber.
Doch Hoffnung gibt der ungebrochene Widerstand in Palästina!
Hoffnung gibt die weltweite Solidaritätsbewegung, welche während einem Genozid nicht schweigt!
Und Hoffnung gibt auch die politische Weitsicht der Klima-Bewegung!
Denn wir wissen, dass der Kampf für eine klimagerechte Welt auch ein Kampf gegen globale Ausbeutung und koloniale Strukturen ist.
Deshalb sagen wir: No climate justice on occupied land!
Kämpfen wir gemeinsam für eine klimagerecht Welt!

For years we have seen how our planet is being destroyed!
For years we have been witnessing the steady rise in global temperatures!
For years we have seen how the consumption of fossil fuels continues to rise despite all this!
And for the last six months we have also had to watch live a genocide in Gaza.
And what destroys Gaza destroys the earth.
And what destroys the earth destroys Gaza.
Because the destruction of the earth began with the large-scale use of fossil fuels.
The economy became increasingly dependent on these fossil fuels. Capitalist competition creates a race for resources.
In the process, the company’s own interests are also enforced militarily.
And this in turn requires precisely these fossil fuels.
The Arab region/West Asia/Middle East is rich in these sought-after natural resources.
It is in this context that Israel’s great support from the West, above all from the USA, should be understood. Israel is such an important military and geopolitical outpost in the region.
So important that Joe Biden himself once said publicly:
“If there were no Israel, we would have to invent one.”
When imperialist interests are jeopardised, they retaliate with violence and war.
We see this in the Iraq war.
We see this in indigenous protests against pipelines and environmental destruction.
And we see this in Palestine.
The West and Israel are destroying Gaza with the power of fossil fuels and are destroying the earth at the same time. In Gaza, ecocide and genocide are merging in an unprecedented way.
During the first two months of the genocide, the Israeli military emitted as much CO2 as twenty countries in the Global South combined in an entire year.
And while the bombs are falling over Gaza, the gas reserves off the coast are already being sold to Israeli and Western companies.
In the meantime, the Israeli military has murdered more than 33,000 people.
Those who have not yet been killed by the bombs are left behind in a wasteland with contaminated soil and undrinkable water.
What remains is a destroyed and contaminated region in which human life is made permanently impossible. A future that many countries in the Global South are facing due to global warming.
In the fight against genocide, colonialism and climate change, we are up against an enemy that seems overwhelming.
But the unbroken resistance in Palestine gives us hope!
Hope is given by the worldwide solidarity movement, which does not remain silent during a genocide!
And hope is also given by the political foresight of the climate movement!
Because we know that the fight for a world with climate justice is also a fight against global exploitation and colonial structures.
That is why we say: No climate justice on occupied land!

Et ce qui détruit Gaza détruit la Terre.
Et ce qui détruit la Terre détruit Gaza.
Car la destruction de la Terre a commencé avec l’utilisation à grande échelle des combustibles fossiles.
La dépendance de l’économie à l’égard de ces combustibles fossiles n’a cessé de croître. La concurrence capitaliste génère une course aux ressources.
Dans ce contexte, les propres intérêts sont également imposés militairement.
Et pour cela, il faut précisément ces matières premières fossiles.
L’espace arabe/l’Asie occidentale/le Proche-Orient sont des régions riches en ces ressources naturelles très demandées.
C’est dans ce contexte qu’il faut comprendre l’important soutien apporté à Israël par l’Occident, et en premier lieu par les Etats-Unis. Israël est un avant-poste militaire et géopolitique si important dans la région.
Si important que Joe Biden lui-même a déclaré publiquement un jour :
“S’il n’y avait pas d’Israël, nous devrions en inventer un.”
Lorsque les intérêts impérialistes sont en danger, la riposte se fait par la force et la guerre.
Nous le voyons avec la guerre en Irak.
Nous le voyons dans les protestations indigènes contre les oléoducs et la destruction de l’environnement.
Et nous le voyons en Palestine.
L’Occident et Israël détruisent Gaza par la puissance des combustibles fossiles et détruisent en même temps la Terre. A Gaza, écocide et génocide se confondent de manière inédite.
Au cours des deux premiers mois du génocide, l’armée israélienne a émis autant de CO2 que vingt pays du Sud global réunis en un an.
Et tandis que les bombes tombent sur Gaza, les gisements de gaz au large de la côte sont déjà vendus à des entreprises israéliennes et occidentales.
Entre-temps, l’armée israélienne a tué plus de 33 000 personnes.
Celleux qui n’ont pas encore été tué.e.s par les bombes restent dans un terrain dévasté avec un sol contaminé et une eau impropre à la consommation.
Il ne reste plus qu’une région détruite et contaminée, où la vie humaine est rendue impossible à long terme. Un avenir auquel de nombreux pays du Sud global sont confrontés en raison du réchauffement climatique.
Dans la lutte contre le génocide, le colonialisme et le changement climatique, nous sommes confronté.e.s à un ennemi qui semble tout-puissant.
Mais la résistance ininterrompue en Palestine donne de l’espoir !
L’espoir vient du mouvement mondial de solidarité, qui ne reste pas silencieux pendant un génocide !
Et l’espoir vient aussi de la vision politique du mouvement climatique !
Car nous savons que la lutte pour un monde respectueux du climat est également une lutte contre l’exploitation globale et les structures coloniales.
C’est pourquoi nous disons : No climate justice on occupied land !
